User Innovation Module

Activity Description

A module on User Innovation is developed to guide students through a multi-step process starting from a focus on needs/pains, discovery of opportunities, establishment of a team project including business model canvas, patent search and prototyping.

Learning Objectives

  • Demonstrate an ability to identify needs, recognize pains, and discover opportunities
  • Develop a team project leading to creating a prototype
  • Exhibit entrepreneurial mindset and leverage technical skills

Duration

300-375 minutes class time plus out of class activities

Target audience

Undergraduate science and engineering students, or students from other disciplines with demonstrated technical knowledge.

Suggested context for implementation

Module can be included in an existing course that can culminate in an individual or group project. Could also be used for a capstone course centered on student-defined problems.
